MUSICAL ORNAMENT CARD
Sparkly Ornament
This pair of cards are 2-of-a-kind, yet different. One base is green, the other red, and the frames are opposites too.
Card size is 4-1/4" x 5-1/2". I love red, white and green for Christmas. For a more modern twist, I decided to use a green that is not the true Christmas green, and a red that is more of a burgundy-raspberry. I just happened to have the right ribbon to accent the Music Ornaments.
Details
White frame is 3.75"w x 5"hThe ornament shape is cut from Winter Wonderland at 1.82w x 1.96h.
"Joy" is 1.86w x 1.55h. All cuts were sized on the Gypsy.
The ornament shape was first cut from the white frame, then I added music behind the cut-out.
I created the music in PhotoShop and sized it down. It is the actual music from the Christmas carol, Angels We Have Heard on High.
To create the sparkly window, I used a special technique.

Inside
Green Card
Inside, I repeated the ornament shape for the Bible verse, then I heat embossed the verse for shine and dimension.
For the card verse, I cut a shape from Elegant Edges, then printed my prepared Word verse onto the shape.
Red Card
For the red card, I kept the verse panel simple with a rectangular shape and embossed frame.
I used the same 1/4" embossing for the front panel of each card.
The photos at right and below show the embossed borders on the white panels.

I am quite happy with the way these cards turned out.
I hope the recipients enjoy them!

Joy to the World
I've been waiting a whole year to post this card. I couldn't give away the surprise until my daughter opened it. I love anything to do with musical instruments, and at Christmas time, it's the perfect theme. The French horn has a beautiful sound (and my daughter used to play it in school) so it is especially appropriate for her.
For the horn, I used gold foil cardstock. Once again, I opted for the traditional colours of red and green. They work beautifully with the gold horn. I used a tag from Winter Woodland to cut the cream-coloured musical background.
Inside
I had more fun creating the inside of the card. First, I made the scripture verse on the computer, framing it in red. Then I added a large black sparkly treble clef and red swoosh.
For the bottom panel, I prepared the verse on my computer and printed it on the same heavy white cardstock. A red 16th note with black swoosh completed the inside. I punched the corners of the bottom panel and added some inking to the top one.
This card, with its brass instrument reminds me of a Salvation Army band playing Christmas carols on a snowy night.
Doesn't it just make you want to join in the singing of Joy To The World?

Christmas Chapel
O Come, All Ye Faithful
October 26, 2011
I loved making this card. I imagined music coming from this country church as townsfolk joyously greeted one another and began singing those old, familiar Christmas carols. In fact, I can picture exactly what the inside looks like.
A center aisle with rows of wooden pews on each side and at the front a platform that has a piano on one side, and a real Christmas tree on the left, all decorated. There are candles on the window sills of each window and wreathes hung over the windows. How do I know all this? I have sung in many such churches over the years; most of them are white but every bit as charming.
The card base is white, with a black mat on top and then the bright Christmas green as a frame. For the snowy background, I used snowflake vellum over white cardstock. Then I created mounds of snow from swirly white and added blue to the edges for definition.
The evergreen trees and rooftop are laden with thick snow. To the cutout windows I added a sheer golden vellum which makes the church come alive. (The windows glow in the picture below.)
And what could be more welcoming on Christmas Sunday than a giant wreath hung on the church front? I prepared the sentiment on my computer, then punched the banner ends with MS lace punch.

I created the verse on my computer and printed it on cardstock. and punched the corners to make it lacy. Before gluing it down, I embossed the green mat with rows of holly branches.

SLEIGH RIDE - Framed Card
I love this old-fashioned scene. This Sleigh Ride card is 5" x 5" and has a raised frame. In keeping with the traditional design, I used the standard Christmas colors of red, white and green.
This card was not difficult to make. The card base is dark red. The white sparkly background is from Core'dinations. As usual, the hardest part was deciding what colours to use.
Tip:
Some of the cut pieces are very tiny so this design works best when made at least 5" in size.
In assembling the card, I found it was best to pop the horse/sleigh and people for a 3D effect. The top green frame is also raised by dimensionals.
Inside
I experimented a little with fonts in order to give the message the right look. It's amazing what a difference a font can make to the 'feel' of the card.
Both verses are printed on one page and printed on cardstock rather than just computer paper. This gives a much nicer look and adds body.

JOY To You At Christmas
Christmas & Music
Christmas and music just naturally go together. This is probably my favourite Christmas Card. A lot went into it as you will notice. The recipient was my very musical daughter so I used an actual excerpt of the music from "Joy To The World".
The large alphabet letters are from the Alphalicious cartridge. For the "O" I created a wreath from punched, overlapped branches. I also used a lot of gold gilding on the edges and lightly sponged over the music.
